Three ways to
catch a thought
before it goes.
Driftnote, prototyped three ways from one PRD. Each take is clickable and makes a different bet. Don't read the doc — tap a phone, step through the flow, argue with it.
#driftnote
The problem, in one breath.
You have half a thought — on the stairs, mid-call, eyes shut. Opening the app to file it kills it. Driftnote has to catch the fragment in under two seconds, with zero aiming.
Where does the thought land?
Each phone advances on tap (or ← / → when focused). These are the three representative screens of each flow — the full prototypes run longer.
Long-press anywhere
Hold any empty pixel for 400ms — a sheet slides up, already listening.
What we lose
between rooms.
The thought always shows up between two other thoughts. You're walking from the kitchen to the desk, half-handling the laundry, rehearsing a sentence —
and then a small, specific idea about something else lands, fully formed, and waits to see if you'll catch it.
Most of them don't get caught. The system —
Drop a thought.
It'll wait in your inbox. No ping.

Most of them don't get caught. The system —
- Pro — zero new surface to learn; nothing on screen until you summon it.
- Con — only helps if the app is already open. Fights iOS long-press.
- Unknown — does it fight scroll on long lists? Discoverability is the whole game.
Lockscreen widget
One mic glyph beside the clock. Tap, phone stays locked, thought lands in the inbox.
Drifts this week
14 · 3 unread- Pro — fastest path that exists; most discoverable, you see it every pickup.
- Con — OS review + privacy optics. Battles weather, calendar for real estate.
- Unknown — will anyone remember it's there by week two?
Earbuds double-tap
Two taps on the stem — soft beep, speak, done. No screen at all.
Double-tap the
left stem twice. Talk.
Driftnote runs in the background. No screen, no app to open.
"The bug isn't the classifier — it's that the user can't tell the classifier fired. Add a quiet acknowledgement, not a banner."
- Pro — truly hands-free, eyes-free. Zero-friction where capture matters most.
- Con — only ~40% of our base wears buds daily. Hardware-locked.
- Unknown — false-trigger rate in a coat pocket. "Did it hear me?" anxiety.
React, don't critique.
Open each prototype on your phone. Pick the one you'd actually reach for at 11pm with a thought slipping — then tell the room which trade-off you'd swallow. We ship one of these in sprint 14.
